Personal Care FAQ

Personal Care, the “in-between” program

Cross Keys Village has been offering Personal Care for more than 30 years. During this period, our program has evolved and we are capable of caring for a much wider range of needs today. While moving to Personal Care is seldom an emergency, it can come at a time of stress for the family, brought on by increasing safety concerns. Every family’s situation is unique, but our Marketing Specialist hears some questions on a regular basis. We have compiled answers below, and we look forward to your questions when you come over for a visit.

What makes a good candidate for Personal Care?

Personal Care is designed for individuals who wish to remain independent, yet for whom staying at home has become impractical, unsafe, or just plain lonely. Some of our residents have limited mobility, whereas others might be experiencing various degrees of memory loss.

Do all the residents in the Personal Care residence come from your apartments and cottages?

No, you can join our Personal Care straight from your home in the greater community, or transferring from another senior living environment. If space is limited, however, we will give priority access to our existing villagers.

How do the fees work?

Personal Care is a flexible program, with no long-term commitment on our residents’ part. There is no entrance fee to join. After we determine your financial qualification for the program with a simple no-fee application, we will prepare for your move according to our available rooms and to your time preference. The daily room rate includes most of our residents’ needs, and the statements are prepared monthly.

Do you have to join a wait list?

Unless we have a room ready for you at the time you make your decision to move, you automatically join a wait list when you return your application, and your position is determined by the date when you returned it. Our Marketing Specialist will remain in close contact with you and notify you when a room becomes available.

How long does the moving in process take?

Admission to Personal Pare is not commonly an emergency. Our team will work hard to accommodate your pace and your schedule. However, depending on room availability, your family’s need, and prompt gathering of the necessary documents, Personal Care admission from A to Z can take as little as two weeks.

What are the advantages to joining a Personal Care within a continuing care community?

They are twofold. On the health care side, our Personal Care residents and their families know that our Health Care Center is available if ever needed, either on short- or long-term basis. Our large and talented therapy department is also available. On the financial side, there is a plan in place for residents who outlive their resources. Such assurances are not commonly offered in most “stand alone” Personal Care residences.
