Life Enrichment

Remain engaged intellectually

Villagers enjoy countless occasions to stay intellectually active and socially engaged. The core of our lifelong learning program is our Discovery Course series which consists of frequent and conveniently scheduled classes covering a wide range of subjects. Classes alternate between practical subjects (nutrition, legal updates, scam avoidance, Medicare news…) and cultural topics (history, politics, music, religion, languages, science, and more). Some of those classes are given in cooperation with nearby colleges, or by specialists in aging services. Various trips and celebrations are offered in addition to the classes. Villagers keep their busy calendar up to date with the help of several in-house publications and closed-circuit TV.

Villagers in charge

Villagers are actively involved in the planning of most Life Enrichment activities. If you move on campus and discover that your passion isn’t on our calendar, we encourage you to “start it from the ground up” and we will help you to do so. Flower arrangement, ballroom dancing, ham radio and peace activism are just some of the areas that have generated a bright flare of interest in recent years. Ideas, suggestions and concerns are raised during regularly scheduled Village Council meetings, assuring that every neighborhood on campus has a voice  and a reliable channel to stay informed about matters large and small. Many residents participate actively in our volunteer efforts: if you come to us with a talent, we will help you grow it, and if you think you haven’t got a talent, just wait and see how you will blossom among us.
