Looking Forward to Family Visits

Cross Keys Village has always seen itself as one big family, deliberately blurring the lines between who lives here, who works here, and who visits here. The last few months have put that long tradition on hold: Strict restrictions on visitors have been hard on residents and on families alike. We have missed the warmth and familiarity of having loved ones on campus. Thankfully, family bonds stayed strong through video chatting, phone calls, and letter writing.

Under the directives of our state authorities, Adams County moved to the green reopening phase on Friday, June 12. This date also started a clock towards the lifting of further restrictions: under guidelines set forth by the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Human Services (DHS), we are permitted to resume family visitations 28 days later, on July 10

“We are all so joyful about the prospect of reuniting with all our beloved families and friends at CKV,” said longtime Director of Community Life Mary Van Buren. “Our families mean the world to us, and they truly nurture not only our residents, but also the many team members that work at CKV.”

Many of our residents have taken this time to reminisce about loved ones, sharing photos, stories, and wonderful memories with caregiving team members at CKV.  Soon we can have those memories come to life with the welcoming of friends and families back on our campus. This time of separation has encouraged us to reflect, take nothing for granted, and truly take stock of the gifts in our lives – with family being at the top of the list.

“When I found out that visitation would be resuming, an overwhelming feeling of excitement and happiness instantly overcame me,” said PC Resident Services Manager Ashley Myers, who had worked tirelessly at filling the visitation gap with technology. “This feeling continued to intensify as the residents found out that there is finally a ‘light at the end of the tunnel,’ when they will be re-united with their loved ones.”

Ashley said she cannot wait to see the smiles, happy tears shed, hear the laughter and just watch families be together. “There is nothing more important than family and togetherness and my own heart will be bursting, knowing my residents’ hearts are happy and whole again!”
