Hooray for Volunteers!

Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is one of several high-quality retirement communities in our region. You may ask: What makes Cross Keys Village stand out among distinguished peers? The answer might surprise you. While our accommodations, lifestyle and care are superb, the importance of our Volunteer Services places this program in a league of its own. The reason for the integration of volunteers in all aspects of our activities has its roots in the volunteering tradition of the Church of the Brethren. Volunteers have been a vital thread in our fabric since Day-1.

Today, with over 86,000 hours of volunteer service given by over 700 volunteers during a typical year, volunteers are truly at the heart of Cross Keys Village and our mission to enrich the lives of older adults. By the way…the estimated value of volunteer time in Pennsylvania in 2018—according to the Independent Sector—was $24.69 per hour. The value to Cross Keys Village from the total volunteer service was $2,137,870.06!

Cindy Boyer directs Volunteer Services’ glamorous lunch

When the time comes every spring to express appreciation for this tremendous gift of time, energy and talent, we naturally go overboard. The outstanding team in our Volunteer Services department outdid themselves again this year. The theme of the celebration was Lights, Camera, Appreciation! with a classic Hollywood flavor. Team members served the luncheon in character for the large crowd, before offering entertainment and honoring our faithful volunteers for their service during the past 12 months.

“As the Volunteer Services Manager, I feel so honored to be the director of such an amazing group of people who put fun in each and every day while helping in an incredible way,” said Cindy Boyer. “They truly are some of the brightest stars at CKV!” They are stars, indeed. We are happy to celebrate our volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Day, but we are grateful for their dedication to our community all year long.
