Village Life

At Cross Keys Village, we call the lively crowd in our apartments, cottages and Bridgewater homes… Villagers. In addition to the solid range of basic services that you might expect in any well-run community, our Villagers enjoy an exceptional, fully-rounded lifestyle. We call this lifestyle Abundant Life. Furthermore, this Abundant Life is available to Villagers far later in old age than you might suspect, thanks to another vital principle in our community: Cross Keys @ Home, a comprehensive set of resources helping Villagers to age-in-place, without leaving their residence.

Bringing You Abundant Life

Abundant Life is what Villagers wake up to every morning: a customized day filled with purpose. Some of us will cuddle up in our residence with a good book and enjoy a day to ourselves, while others will go through such a whirlwind of a day that 24 hours will not quite suffice. No matter what your preference is on any given day, four essential strategies are at your disposal and they can be combined in an infinity of ways.

Wellness in an exceptional setting

The crown jewel of our campus is the Harvey S. Kline Wellness Center. An imposing and inviting space, it is connected to the Harmony Ridge apartment complex. The Wellness Center contains a large indoor pool, a whirlpool spa, and spacious exercise rooms equipped with springy floors designed specifically for group classes like yoga, tai chi, cardio, weight training, and aerobics.

Our 5-strong Wellness Team will work with you and design fitness programs to meet your needs and abilities. As soon as the weather allows in the late winter, you will find your neighbors on our 10 miles of walking trails. A sequence of spectacular outdoor events takes place during the warmer months, including a cardboard boat regatta on our pond, and a mid-summer bonfire enjoyed by all.

Lifelong learning stimulates the mind

Just as we offer numerous opportunities to keep the body in optimal condition, we present our Villagers with countless occasions to stay intellectually active and socially engaged. The core of our lifelong learning program is our Discovery at Cross Keys Village  series which consists of frequent and conveniently scheduled classes covering a wide range of subjects. Classes alternate between practical subjects (nutrition, legal updates, scam avoidance, Medicare news…) and cultural topics (history, music, religion, science, and more). Some of those classes are offered in cooperation with nearby colleges or by specialists in aging services. Villagers keep their busy calendar up to date with the help of several in-house publications, and via closed-circuit TV.

A wide range of dining options

Three eating venues are available to Cross Keys Village residents, team members and visitors. Each of the three has a distinct identity and a unique function. The Terrace Dining Room is an informal cafeteria in the Health Care Center, with long opening hours and the friendliest attendants. It is a great spot to quickly grab enjoy a square meal over a panoramic view of our pond. The Harmony Café is an airy and bustling bistro, our answer to a trendy bakery or coffee house in the city. It is open for breakfast and lunch and serves the finest sandwiches, salads, and specials. Finally, the Campus Inn is a gorgeous space, with floor-to-ceiling windows, first-class service, and a great menu to match. Some Villagers visit the restaurants only when the mood strikes them, while others purchase an optional meal plan every month, which entitles them to an additional discount off their dining bill. Our dining services partner, Flik Lifestyles, believes in the farm-to-fork principles and utilizes as much locally grown fresh produce as possible in the preparation of dishes. We can also accommodate a wide range of dietary restrictions. Catering is available for special occasions, either in one of our public rooms or in your apartment or cottage. Cash is not needed: your ID badge will allow us to record your dining expenses on your monthly statement. Tipping is strictly prohibited.

Life Enrichment means an abundance of choices

This last category also sets Cross Keys Village apart. All retirement villages offer “activities,” but our Life Enrichment Guide – a listing of committees, groups, clubs and other interests – is truly extraordinary. Most of the life enrichment activities are resident-led and tied-in with our powerful volunteer tradition. Villagers who wish to do so can participate in trips, games, worship, a brass ensemble, crafts, a model railroad, Bible study, computers, genealogy, Red Hats, a choir, support groups, quilting, the library, billiards, fishing, gardening, movies, golf, concerts, poetry, and much more. It is no wonder that other villages often appear a little lifeless in comparison.

Our hundreds of smart, active… and opinionated Villagers have the opportunity to serve on the Village Council, where a dedicated group makes sure that every neighborhood’s voice is heard. In an age when society seems less tightly woven than it once was, Cross Keys Village offers true community life.

Cross Keys @ Home

Villagers have at their disposal a variety of services designed to make life easier, more comfortable, safer, and to help them age-in-place longer without leaving their residence. The Cross Keys @ Home team provides some of these services… and helps coordinate many other services with dependable local providers.

Residential Nursing

The sheer size of our community allows us to keep our Residential Health Nurses available to Villagers during extensive hours, seven days a week, ready to provide services such as health-related assessments, first aid, and medication assistance. Our LPNs have seen it all, and they routinely perform emergency response visits for falls, cold symptoms, general malaise, vertigo, chest pains, respiratory distress, etc. In addition, they follow up and check on Villagers during or after illness, injury, or hospitalization to ensure that any needs or services are identified and addressed.

For a moderate additional fee, they will perform treatments including wound care, dressing changes, injections, medication administration, eye drops or other topical medication application, blood glucose monitoring, as well as refill medication planners.

Village Housekeeping

Most Villagers appreciate regularly scheduled housecleaning or some extra help from time to time. Village Housekeeping offers the assistance of skilled, fully insured professionals who will make life easier. Services include bathroom, kitchen and other living spaces, inside windows (including curtains/blinds), walls and ceilings (including light fixtures), carpets and floors, even the insides of appliances. These services may be scheduled on a one-time basis or regularly. The fee schedule is competitive, and the Accounting Department will include the charges on Villagers’ monthly statements.
