In an area rich in retirement communities, there is one that stands out from the crowd. Cross Keys Village is one of the largest independent nonprofit retirement villages in the country and offers the solid range of services you would expect from a top-of-the-line village in Lancaster or Philadelphia… but at Adams County rates.
Earlier than many communities offering independent living as one of their senior living options, Cross Keys Village realized that many older adults wish to unburden themselves of costly home maintenance and repairs, yet prefer to stay active and to get up early at the start of each productive day. This is why we fill every season with countless choices: courses, classes, exercise, trips, groups, art, crafts, music, gardening, worship, and more volunteer opportunities than in any other retirement community. We offer our villagers an impressive range of accommodations, from cozy cottages and sunny apartments to impressive single-family Country Homes. Our new Bridgewater expansion is carefully designed for retirees who wish to experience senior living without downsizing.
Villagers who join our program in Residential Living (also known as Independent Living in other communities) lead physically, intellectually and spiritually stimulating lives, free of most of the worries of late retirement such as caring for a large back yard or handling the upkeep and maintenance of a home. In addition, they know that Cross Keys Village has a plan should their condition ever require it, and that they have priority access to our Personal Care and Health Care Center if ever needed on a short- or long-term basis. With more than a century’s worth of financial stability, Cross Keys Village provides valuable peace of mind to the villagers who invest part of their life savings in the community. Moreover, Cross Keys Village provides financial assistance to those who outlive their resources while paying for care.
Far from anyone’s outdated conception of an “Old Folks’ Home”, Cross Keys Village is a vibrant community, wide open to our neighbors from Gettysburg, Hanover, York, New Oxford and beyond. Area seniors take classes in our pool, enjoy our concerts, savor our legendary chicken BBQ, cheer for the brave cardboard-boat sailors on our pond, and bring their awed grandchildren to our famed model train display. Don’t be a stranger. Dig deeper into these pages and sample our lifestyle: A rich retirement may be closer than you think.
RESIDENTIAL LIVING (also known as Independent Living in other communities) is the preferred option for dynamic retirees who wish to stretch the duration and the quality of their proverbial golden years, rather than just fade quietly into the no-less-proverbial sunset. Those villagers enjoy a full calendar, abundant friendships, and relief from homeowners’ chores and from worries about future “what ifs”.
PERSONAL CARE (often known as Assisted Living outside Pennsylvania) is a lifestyle which allows older adults to retain a maximum of independence – with access to a bit of extra help when needed with meals, medicine management, dressing, and more. Personal Care is indicated when living at home on your own becomes impractical, unsafe, or just plain lonely.
HEALTH CARE is the senior living level for individuals who need round-the-clock care and monitoring. At Cross Keys Village, we believe in a life without limitation for our elders, and we strive to organize a lifestyle for them far exceeding the traditional conception of a nursing home. Innovative community life and a holistic vision of wellness combine into outstanding compassionate care.
REHABILITATION CARE is available to all villagers and residents in several in-patient and out-patient settings on campus. Services include physical therapy for mobility, balance improvement and fall risk reduction, occupational therapy for daily tasks, muscle strength and joint range of motion, and speech therapy for communication and swallowing.
MEMORY CARE is an integral part of all our services. All team members are trained to provide exceptional care and customer service to individuals at any stage of the disease process. Several of our neighborhoods are specialized in the care of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Our Director of Memory Support is available as a consultation and education resource to individuals, families, caregivers, and groups.
ADULT DAY SERVICES is a day program open to anyone over the age of 18 who needs some degree of supervision. The program is designed to combine health services and social activities in order to help individuals stay mentally and physically active. As an additional benefit, the program offers family caregivers a reliable and affordable solution to the conflicting demands on their own schedule.
Whether you are researching senior living for yourself or for a parent, we pledge to clearly and respectfully explain all the options that are open to you and to your family, all within our ultimate goal of offering older adults a life infused with quality and purpose.
