2025 Cardboard Boat Regatta
There is nothing quite like seeing cardboard, duct tape, and imagination come to life at the Cross Keys Village Cardboard Boat Regatta. What started back in 2009 to celebrate the opening of the Harvey S. Kline Aquatics Center has grown into one of our most beloved traditions. The very first races splashed around in the swimming pool more than 16 years ago. Today, the action takes place out on the pond, where the excitement and splashes are bigger than ever.
Each year, our teams roll up their sleeves, gather supplies, and set out to build boats that can both float and fly across the water. On average, each boat takes about eight hours to construct, but the real magic is in the creativity, teamwork, and laughter that go into the process.
This year’s lineup of five boats gave the crowd plenty to cheer for:
- Blazing Paddles
- The Floatin’ Ecker
- The Hawaiian Rollercoaster
- Phil
- Safari
The competition was fierce, but The Hawaiian Rollercoaster made waves by capturing two trophies: Fastest Boat and Last Boat Afloat. Our Wellness team’s colorful entry, Safari, earned the honor of Best in Show.
We could not have asked for a better day. Sunshine, cheering crowds, and even a few dramatic sinkings made it an afternoon to remember. Adding to the fun, we were thrilled to welcome special guests Scott Donato and Kim Alexander from Froggy 107.7, who kept the energy high as our emcees.
The 2025 Regatta was more than just a race. It was a celebration of creativity, community spirit, and the simple joy of coming together. Until next year, we will be dreaming up the next round of cardboard creations. Who knows what will float or sink next.
