Wellbrook Adult Day Services
A wholesome alternative to a lonely day at home
Older adults who live by themselves (or with an adult child who works during the day) run the risk of being socially isolated during the daytime. This risk looms larger after the loss of a spouse, or when mobility becomes compromised. A majority of older adults strongly express the wish to “remain in my own home,” yet that very home can turn progressively into a holding cell. Isolation is a serious matter, as it invariably leads to physical and emotional decline. Moreover, exclusive reliance on adult children for social and other needs can, in turn, contribute to caregiver burnout, a serious blend of fatigue, stress, anxiety and depression that threatens a household’s dynamics.
A daytime program may be the answer
Wellbrook is a day program open to individuals over the age of 18 who live with physical disabilities, mobility limitations or memory loss, and who require some supervision along with structured programming. The program is designed to combine health services and social activities in order to help participants stay mentally and physically stimulated while feeling needed and worthy. A typical day includes activities that focus on the mind, body and spirit, as well as assistance with bathroom, ambulation, and medication administration. This rich calendar of activities – including intergenerational visits and devotions from our Pastoral Care team – takes place within a single secure environment: a Cross Keys Village residential cottage that was reconfigured for this use and redecorated in late 2017. Our program is located in Adams County, directly off of Route 30.
Affordable and flexible
Wellbrook provides an affordable option for compassionate care, and much-needed respite for families. Participation in our program may also delay the time when families are faced with a difficult decision about round-the-clock care. Our center is open five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and there is no commitment on your part to bring your loved one to Wellbrook on a regular schedule. Wellbrook is licensed by the Department of Aging and a member of the Pennsylvania Adult Day Services Association.
Our services include additional resources such as health education and assistance with transportation arrangements. Bathing, podiatry and beauty/barber services are available for an additional fee.
