Dementia seminar to be held May 13
A seminar for caregivers and others who work with individuals with dementia will be held on Thursday, May 13, at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
Dementia education specialist Teepa Snow, who presented a well-received program on a related topic last year, returns to Cross Keys to lead this event, which is divided into two segments:
- Creative and Practical Tips for Getting Through the Day
- Managing Behaviors – Start with Yourself
Snow will relate techniques for successful communication, focusing on how specific words and actions affect responses of people with dementia. This should be immediately useful to anyone who cares for, works with or lives with individuals who have dementia, especially those in long-term nursing care or assisted living settings. Each session will offer three continuing education credits for registered nurses.
The program will take place in Nicarry Meetinghouse from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and advance registration is required. The $25 fee (for non-Cross Keys team members) includes morning and afternoon refreshments (but not lunch).
