Cross Keys hosts, participates in countywide disaster drill

It didn’t REALLY happen, but a tornado COULD strike the campus of Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community. If that ever happens, area emergency services will be better prepared to deal with the aftermath, thanks to a countywide disaster drill held at Cross Keys on Saturday, August 29.

Fire and rescue companies from across Adams County, plus several from York County, brought more than three dozen pieces of equipment and more than 100 of their team members to campus for the drill, which simulated a tornado striking Assisted Living and then creating several other emergency situations elsewhere on campus. An even larger number of villagers, residents and others took part as volunteer “victims” of the disaster.

As the photos (by Cross Keys team members Dennis Hare and Noel Kline) show in the slide shows below, it was an exceptionally busy few hours. Bruce of Yealy of Hanover Hospital’s Medic 46 unit said that the emergency personnel involved in the drill would learn from their mistakes and take away an experience they could not otherwise gain.

That should be of benefit to all involved for years to come.
