Hundreds of villagers and friends of Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community braved an oncoming thunder storm and dedicated the Harvey S. Kline Wellness Center and Harmony Ridge West Apartments in a ceremony on Friday, May 29.

An Open House was held the next day, with hundreds more in attendance, to show off the new facilities – aquatic center, fitness suite, Harmony Café, salon/spa and multiple apartment floor plans.

UPDATE – About 50 community members, including the Cross Keys Board of Directors, took part in a “Naming Ceremony” in July, completing that part of the dedication that was rained out. Click here for photos and details of that brief but symbolically important event.

Nevin Dulabaum, President of Brethren Benefit Trust, the financial services ministry of the Church of the Brethren, was the featured speaker for the dedication (click here to read his address). He and other speakers praised Harvey S. Kline, the former administrator and president of what was then the Brethren Home, for his contributions to the community over the years.

Kline also served as an original trustee of Brethren Benefit Trust.

Rain curtailed the ceremony a few minutes before its scheduled end, and the official ribbon cutting took place inside, next to the new pool.

Construction on the $19 million, 127,000-square-foot complex began in November 2007. The wellness center was funded through a $3.5 million capital campaign, and naming gift opportunities remain available in the building.

With the building now open, those apartments remaining available are open for visits/tours, as are all the amenities in the wellness center and the expansion of the Community Center, including the Harmony Café, which is now open from breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Tours of the apartments are available Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:30 and Saturday from 10:00-2:00.
