Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic
to perform Saturday, June 27
The Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will present a free, public concert in the 2009 Fine Arts Concert Series at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community, performing on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 7 p.m. in Nicarry Meetinghouse.
The Concert Band – there also are a ceremonial band and several ensembles – is a 35-piece wind ensemble that performs a two-week concert tour every summer. Its repertoire includes an exciting mix of wind band music including Americana, movie themes, jazz favorites, classical and contemporary band music, and of course popular marches.
Its world-class musicians are featured regularly with instrumental and vocal solos. The band recently premiered an original composition written by one of its own members, and last year it performed at the Pocono 500 NASCAR race.
The band is assigned to the dual missions of supporting regional Air National Guard units through performances in ceremonies, activities and recruiting tours; and public relations concert tours for the Air National Guard and the “Total Air Force.” It further is assigned the state mission of supporting regional Air National Guard units.
The Fine Arts Concert Series at Cross Keys receives support from the Brethren Home Auxiliary. The next event in this year’s series will be on Friday, Sept. 18, and will feature Slim Harrison and Tom Jolin, the Barnstormers, who have been playing traditional, old timey American folk music together for 27 years.
