Brethren Benefit Trust President to speak at dedication of Cross Keys Village’s Harvey S. Kline Wellness Center and Harmony Ridge West Apartments

CROSS KEYS/NEW OXFORD, PA – Nevin Dulabaum, President of Brethren Benefit Trust, the financial services ministry of the Church of the Brethren, will be the featured speaker on Friday, May 29, at the dedication of the Harvey S. Kline Wellness Center and Harmony Ridge West Apartments at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.

The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the front parking lot of the new building.

The 127,000-square-foot Harmony Ridge West project includes 56 apartments, a wellness center with pool, exercise room, cardio equipment room, changing rooms and salon/spa, and a community center expansion with café restaurant, and spaces for recreation, meetings, business and activities of all kinds. Nevin Dulabaum, President of Brethren Benefit Trust, the financial services ministry of the Church of the Brethren, was the featured speaker for the dedication (click here to read his address). He and other speakers praised Harvey S. Kline, the former administrator and president of what was then the Brethren Home, for his contributions to the community over the years.

The wellness center is named for the Church of the Brethren clergy member who served as administrator and president from 1971-89 of what was then known as the Brethren Home. Harvey and Ruth Kline now live at Cross Keys. The wellness center portion of the project is being funded by private donations, currently totaling more than $2.5 million.

New villagers began moving into the apartments on April 13, with the other facilities beginning operations at various times in May.

Dulabaum replaces Larry Minnix, President/CEO of the AAHSA, the professional association for nonprofit retirement communities and nursing homes. Minnix withdrew as speaker due to a schedule conflict.

A 15-year employee of the Church of the Brethen, Dulabaum’s responsibilities during most of that period were in communication, first with the General Board and since 1999 with Brethren Benefit Trust (BBT) in marketing, communications, promotion and information services.

He also was heavily involved with the Church of the Brethren Credit Union, served as its vice chairman and helped develop its relationship with BBT.

After nearly eight years on BBT’s senior management team, Dulabaum was named its president and began serving in that role last September.

“We are very pleased to have Nevin as our featured speaker,” said Cross Keys President/CEO Vernon King. “He is a great supporter and friend of our community, and he is a gifted leader for BBT.

“He will be in a unique position to put our mission – as exemplified in these new facilities – in the greater context of all the Church of the Brethren has stood for over its 301-year history.”

Founded in 1908 by Southern Pennsylvania District COB members, what was then know as the Church of the Brethren Home moved to its current site at “Cross Keys,” just east of New Oxford, Pa., in 1952. The transition from “old folks home” to nursing care took place over the next decade, with independent retirement living and assisted living being added in the 1970s and ‘80s.

Today more than 900 individuals live on the 250-acre campus in approximately 335 cottages and homes, 125 apartments, 95 assisted living units, and 270 nursing beds. An adult day services program also is offered.

Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is located at the intersection of U.S. 30 and PA 94 (Cross Keys), less than two miles east of New Oxford’s town circle. The Village Drive entrances are the best ways to access Nicarry Meetinghouse – off U.S. 30 at the northwest edge of campus, west of the intersection and across the highway from the used car lot, or off PA94 between Cross Keys Internal Medicine and PNC Bank.
