Fine Arts Concert Series
schedule for 2009 announced
The Fine Arts Concert Series at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community will bring classical, bluegrass, gospel and other varieties of music to Nicarry Meetinghouse on eight weekends in 2009.
Vocal and instrumental performances are on the schedule for the free, public series, which opens on Saturday, March 14, with the bluegrass and gospel sounds of the Goose Creek Boys. Except for the September event, which is on a Friday, all the concerts are held on Saturdays, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Classical pianist Thomas Pandolfi, characterized as “a prodigious virtuoso who excels in reviving the core repertoire from the golden age of pianism,” visits Cross Keys on April 4.
The Hannigan Duo – flutist Mary and pianist Barry – will perform on May 9. They are music faculty members at Dickinson College and Bucknell University, respectively.
On June 27, the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic will appear.
Slim Harrison and Tom Jolin make up the Barnstormers, who have been playing traditional, old timey American folk music together for 27 years. They will perform on Friday, September 18, the only 2009 concert not on a Saturday.
The Prodigal Sons, a gospel group whose singing leans toward barbershop style, will visit Cross Keys on October 3. They performed briefly at the 2008 Chicken Barbecue on campus.
Classical music returns on November 21 with an appearance by the Mendelssohn Piano Trio.
The final 2008 performance will be by the Harrisburg Singers on December 12.
The Fine Arts Concert Series is assembled each year by a committee of Cross Keys Villagers and is supported by The Brethren Home Auxiliary. Churches and other area groups assist with escorting those Health Care Center residents who need assistance. Seating is unreserved; some artists have CDs on sale after their performances.
Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is located at the intersection of U.S. 30 and PA 94 (Cross Keys), less than two miles east of New Oxford’s town circle. Nicarry Meetinghouse is best accessed via the Route 30 entrance, which is at the northwest corner of the campus. Directional signage is available at other entrances. Ample free parking is available.
