“Superbowz” to perform April 26
The York Area Suzuki Superbowz, directed by Venona Detrick, will present a free, public recital on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m. in Nicarry Meetinghouse at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
The Superbowz started in 1990 as a weekly group lesson experience for Detrick’s private violin students. Eighteen years later the group has grown to 34 members with cello and viola students also participating. About two dozen of them will perform at Cross Keys.
The group also plays for local church and civic functions. Students performing on April 26 range from 5-17 years old. Students begin learning their string instrument as young as 3.
Director Detrick has lives in Loganville with her husband, Rev. Joe Detrick, and their three sons, all musicians. She teaches general music and strings in the Dallastown Area School District and plays in the York Symphony Orchestra as well as with a string quartet, No Strings Attached.
Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is located at the intersection of U.S. 30 and PA 94 (Cross Keys), less than two miles east of New Oxford’s town circle. Nicarry Meetinghouse is best accessed via the Route 30 entrance, which is at the northwest corner of the campus. Directional signage is available at other entrances. Ample free parking is available.
