Awards and “The Big Check” presented at
Founders Club Dinner
Three stalwart supporters of Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community were honored at the 25th annual Founders Club Dinner Saturday (Nov. 1) in the Nicarry Meetinghouse on the CKV-TBHC campus.
With 200 Cross Keys residents, volunteers, team members and friends on hand, the Founders Club also presented An oversized “big check” for $25,000 to President/CEO Vernon L. King for the group’s 2007 projects, a whirlpool bath for the Health Care Center and a memory enhancement computer program.
Recognition went to three long-time active members of the Founders Club. Barbara Rollman of York received the 2008 Distinguished Volunteer Service award, and Oliver Steger of Hanover received the Distinguished Community Service Award.
Treva Markey of York, who has served in various Founders Club leadership positions and been part of the planning team for every previous Founders Club Dinner, also was given special recognition for her service.
With Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community celebrating its centennial in 2008 and the Founders Club holding its 25th dinner, this year’s program was special, with Stanley Noffsinger, general secretary of the Church of the Brethren, as the featured speaker.
Additionally, Sam Keeney of York, who had provided music for the first dinner in 1984, returned to provide the same role. Warren and Theresa Eshbach also took part in the music program; he was the first chaplain for what was then called The Brethren Home.
Membership in the Founders Club is limited to those who maintain a given level of financial support for Cross Keys, which provides an average of $3 million each year in charitable and other uncompensated care for residents.
Founded in 1908 as “The Brethren’s Home” in a large farmhouse near Carlisle and moved to its current location in 1952, Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is home to some 900 women and men in independent living, assisted living and nursing care services. Another 600 individuals work on the 250-acre campus.
