York Symphony Chamber singers to perform December 20 at Cross Keys
Characterized as “one of York’s musical treasurers,” the York Symphony Chamber Singers will perform a free, public concert on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. in Nicarry Meetinghouse at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
In their 26 years of existence, this group has presented a musical repertoire that encompasses sacred and secular music from all types, styles and periods, performing locally and throughout the Northeast. Past concert locations have included St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, historic Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Wlliamsburg, historic St. Paul’s Church in Petersburg, Va., the National Institutes of Health, and Longwood Gardens, among others.
The singers have made a commitment to include in their programs a substantial portion of music from our rich American heritage. Most selections are sung a cappella.
Dr. Robert Hart Baker is the Artistic Director of the Chamber Singers, who were founded in 1982 by Ronald Dietz. Members are chosen through auditions and also sing in the York Symphony Chorus.
The event is the last of the 2008 Fine Arts Concert Series at Cross Keys, which receives support from the Brethren Home Auxiliary. The 2009 series will begin on Saturday, March 14, with a performance by the Goose Creek Boys.
Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community is located at the intersection of U.S. 30 and PA 94 (Cross Keys), less than two miles east of New Oxford’s town circle. Nicarry Meetinghouse is best accessed via the Route 30 entrance, which is at the northwest corner of the campus. Directional signage is available at other entrances. Ample free parking is available.
