FAQs

Do I have to belong to the Church of the Brethren to move to Cross Keys?

Although Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community was founded as a mission of the Southern Pennsylvania District Church of the Brethren – which still has its offices in our Main Building – fewer than one resident in four is a COB member, and we welcome people of all faiths. The Faith Community, a COB congregation on campus, counts many non-Brethren in regular attendance, and most people find its worship services quite comfortable liturgically, regardless of their backgrounds. If you prefer your own denomination, we will gladly help you find a home church.

Do I have to surrender all my assets to move onto your campus.

Our Independent Living, Assisted Living and Nursing Care services are for the most part fee-for-service – the entrance fee for independent living is the equivalent of a prepaid lease. We do require that you have certain financial resources over and above what you pay initially, but that protects you and the community from future problems, and it allows you to keep your assets until they might be needed.

What kind of community is Cross Keys? Will I fit in?

Residents here are active, living their lives to the fullest. They also are dedicated and giving, with many serving as volunteers on campus or for other worthwhile organizations. Best of all, with an Independent Living population that will soon top 600, and with nearly 100 residents in Assisted Living and 270 in the Health Care Center, there’s a very good chance you’ll find others who share your interests and outlook on life.

Can I afford it?

We have caring counselors for all areas who can discuss financial considerations candidly and sympathetically. The size of our Independent Living village means we have cottages, apartments and homes within reach of people with varying financial resource levels. Our Health Care Center includes residents who are capable of paying their own way, as well as those who depend on insurance or government assistance. If for some reason you do not meet our qualifications, we will try to suggest appropriate alternatives.
