FAQ

Do I have to belong to the Church of the Brethren to move to Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Community?

Although we were founded as a mission of the Southern Pennsylvania District Church of the Brethren, we welcome people of all faiths. In fact, fewer than a quarter of our residents are members of the Church of the Brethren.

The Faith Community, a Church of the Brethren congregation on campus, counts many non-Brethren in regular attendance. If you prefer your own denomination, we will gladly help you find a home church nearby.

Do I have to surrender all my assets to move onto your campus?

Our Residential Living, Personal Care, and Health Care services are for the most part fee-for-service—the entrance fee for independent living is the equivalent of a prepaid lease. We do require that you have certain financial resources over what you pay initially, to protect you and the community from future problems, but you certainly may keep your assets until they might be needed.

Will I fit in at Cross Keys?

The people who make Cross Keys Village their home are active, interested, and believe in living their lives to the fullest. With nearly 1,000 people living here, there’s every possibility that you’ll find others who share your interests and outlook on life.

Our community members are dedicated and giving, with many serving as volunteers on campus or for other worthwhile organizations. They are also warm and welcoming, and go out of their way to make new residents feel at home.

Can I afford it?

Our caring retirement counselors can discuss your financial considerations candidly, sympathetically, and confidentially. The size of our residential living neighborhoods means we have cottages, apartments, and country homes within reach of people with varying financial resource levels. We provide Health Care and Personal Care services to residents who are capable of paying their own way, as well as those who depend on insurance or government assistance. If for some reason you do not meet our qualifications, we will try to suggest appropriate alternatives.
