Educator Gets Fresh Start… With Seniors!

A solid Lifelong Learning program is an essential element of what residents in a retirement community can expect as part of a proactive healthy-aging program. Accordingly, Cross Keys Village has offered various classes and lectures for years to its large population of residential Villagers to keep their minds engaged and stimulated. However, this summer we took a big step forward with the creation of a new position for us: the Director of Life Enrichment.
We are truly blessed that Dr. Cynthia “Cindy” Drenovsky filled the position and joined our team in early August. Cindy came to us with over 26 years’ experience as a Professor of Sociology at Shippensburg University, where she served as Director of both the Gerontology and Women’s Studies departments. She brings to us a wealth of knowledge on topics such as aging, health, community action and women’s issues.
We were all awaiting her arrival impatiently… and with a little awe as well. With her impressive credentials, not to mention her academic research and her significant volunteer activities, she sounded almost intimidating “on paper.” Well, that was a needless worry. From Day-1, Cindy has made everyone she meets feel utterly charmed with her unpretentious and witty approach.
During her first month on campus, Cindy has been observing, learning, asking questions, and immersing herself in the Cross Keys culture. Villagers adopted her quickly and they wave casually through the large window that separates her bright office from the main hallway in Harmony Ridge. We found out that she was intimidated too, and quite relieved when she realized what a friendly and eager bunch we are.
