Centennial Butterfly Release takes off

The Centennial Butterfly Release Saturday (May 3) at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community was a colorful success and seems headed for a permanent spot on the community’s calendar.

About 300 human participants and onlookers joined 650 Monarch butterflies for the inaugural event, which captured the imagination of the community. More than 100 of the butterflies were sponsored by individuals or groups who – in some cases – also released the sponsored butterfly. Funds raised through the sponsorships, which also included corporate support from Hanover Toyota, will go to the Good Samaritan Fund at Cross Keys. In all, the event raised about $6,300.
