25th Annual Founders Club Dinner

CROSS KEYS/NEW OXFORD, PA - November 26, 1983, was the date of the 75th Anniversary Dinner held in the Meeting House at “The Brethren Home.” This landmark event initiated what has become known as The Founders Club Dinner.

Each year for the past 25 years, members of this special group have adopted a project to benefit residents of our community. Past projects have included items such as special lift chairs for the beauty shop, a wheelchair-accessible van, whirlpool tub, etc.

The 2007 Founders Club Dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the White Rose Room at the York Expo Fairgrounds. Funds from this year’s benefit dinner will be used for the staff scholarship program and the Good Samaritan Fund.

The scholarship program helps staff members who wish to pursue courses that will improve their skills in current or future positions at Cross Keys. The Good Samaritan Fund helps to pay the cost of providing care to those residents who are no longer able to pay for their care.

The program for this year features Eva Whittington Self, who lives with her husband and two daughters in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. At the age of 17, Eva was in an automobile accident that left her paralyzed from the hips down. Her story is one of overcoming such a tragedy through faith.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in music education from Gardner-Webb College, Eva worked for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for eight years. More recently she has served as a worship leader for retreats and conferences for Focus On The Family. In 1988 she made a recording titled “The Old Violin,” a collection of Christian songs.

Her biography, “May Bell’s Daughter,” is available in print, audio and video formats.

If you are interested in learning more about the Founders Club event and possibly supporting this year’s project, call the Foundation office at 717-624-5208.
