The 47th annual Chicken Barbecue, Car Show and Auction will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.

The Classic Car Show, a 2006 addition to the day, was a big hit, and it returns to share the spotlight with lots of tasty food, entertainment, sales of all kinds, and an auction of quilts, antiques and collectibles.

Nearly 100 classic cars – model year 1972 or older – took part in the show last year, and as many or more are expected in 2007, including rare delivery trucks and exotic cars.

Chicken barbecue sales -- $8 to eat in or take out – will begin at 10:15 a.m., and lots of other food choices will be available as well. Kauffman’s BBQ of Bethel, an area favorite, will prepare the chicken again this year.

The auction will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the air-conditioned comfort of Nicarry Meetinghouse. A special preview of items to be auctioned will be held Friday, August 10, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and they may be viewed on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Used books, crafts, collectible stamps, and other items will be on sale outside, and both the Bee Hive Gift Shop and the Almost New Shop will be open.

The entertainment lineup, which performs in front of a mostly shaded hillside, will include Marylander Jon Wickstrom, whose easygoing style has been likened to James Taylor, and Rhonda Lee, whose “Rhonda Lee Performs Legends” show recalls great singers past.

The Hanover Brass Quintet also will perform, as will the Village Choir and the Assisted Living Warblers.

Admission and parking are free for this family fun day – and there’s a special drive-thru for chicken takeout orders, so follow the signs. Proceeds benefit The Brethren Home Auxiliary, which supports charitable care and special projects that improve life for those who live on the Cross Keys campus.
