52nd Annual Chicken BBQ To Be Held Saturday

One of the summer's family highlights, the 52nd Annual Chicken BBQ, Car Show & Auction will be held Saturday, August 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cross Keys Village.

Delicious BBQ Chicken meals ($8) will be available beginning at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish to take their chicken home, take-out will be available at the Route 94/Village Drive campus entrance and will continue until 6:00 p.m. (unless sold out earlier). Lots of other food choices will be offered on-site (between the Health Care Center and the pond), including pork BBQ, fries, kettle korn, ice cream and pie. Baked goods also will be sold for take-out.

The day's other favorite attractions return as well: the huge "previously enjoyed" book sale, crafts, kid's activities and more. For the kids a "moon bounce" and inflatable fire truck slide will provide exciting fun, as will a "barrel train" ride and several games. The entertain alpacas will return for petting.

As many as 100 "classic" (1972 and older) cars and trucks are expected for the car show. Live music will be provided throughout the day. The Bee Hive Craft Shop and Almost New Shop both will be open. Several gift and craft vendors will offer ceramics, jewelry, collectible stamps, placemats, tote bags, doll dresses and more.

The auction of quilts and a variety of antiques, collectibles and other items will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Nicarry Meetinghouse (items previewed Friday, August 10, from 5;00-7:00 p.m. and prior to the auction Saturday).

Live music will be provided by the Villagers Choir (10-10:45), the Iron Ridge Bluegrass Band (11:15-12:15), Herb Sell's Jazz Quartet (12:45-1:45) and an ensemble of the Spring Garden Band (2-3), with seating on the hillside above the gazebo at the pond.

Admission and parking are free. Proceeds from the Chicken BBQ benefit the Good Samaritan Fund at Cross Keys, as well as other projects undertaken by the Brethren Home Auxiliary to benefit those who live on campus.
